This Book entitled ‘Essentials of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is the latest addition in this subject authored by two senior professors who have long
experience of teaching in the subject in different medical colleges in Bangladesh. Textbooks written by our local authors are not many and our students have to depend on textbooks written by foreign authors who do not always focus on problems that are relevant for us. Hopefully, This book will address some of those deficiencies.
This is a composite book that includes the essentials of both obstetrics and gynaecology. In addition, it has added Chapters on social obstetrics & gynaecology which is not found in many such textbooks and I think this will be useful for both of our undergraduate and postgraduate students, In this portion, they have given attention to subjects like epidemiology of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity, adolescent gynaecology, the importance of proper counselling, etc., which the students will find useful.
The obstetric part of the book has included all recent updates, including the
latest WHO recommendations on pregnancy and antenatal care. It has also discussed the common obstetric problems that a doctor in this country is likely to encounter, including postnatal care.
In the gynaecology section the physiological and pathological aspects of common
gynaecological problems have been adequately covered. Chapters on laparoscopy and menopause have been well written. The Lates FIGO Classification of abnormal uterine bleeding and its implication in the management of such cases has also been well-discussed. Chapter on pelvic
organ prolapse with new classification has been elaborately explained.
